Oxford Dictionary definition; freckle: a small patch of light brown colour on the skin, often becoming more pronounced through exposure to the sun.

Too true but this explanation doesn’t capture what a freckle really is. Having had a face full of them for years and a resistance to them for as many, I’ve recently learned to embrace and even love them. I don’t cover them anymore and think my face would be bland and lonely without my colony of squatters. They are like special little memories stamped all over my face.  Or, as my boyfriend puts it “they’re a personalised gift from the sun”.
